Billed as “the world’s lightest super telephoto camera,” this device pairs with your smartphone to get crystal clear images with up to 36x optical magnification. With flagship smartphone sensors topping out at 5x or 10x optical zoom, you can see why that’s a big deal.
What’s more, it has swappable optics, with options for the 400mm, 36x lens and a smaller, 40mm with 3.6x magnification. With both lenses being smaller than a soda can, you can always have the right lens with you.

While the Excope DT1 has a mount for your smartphone, you can use it wirelessly if you prefer. That means you can set up the perfect angle, then kick back and relax until the perfect shot presents itself.
That’s great for nighttime photography, especially if you’re trying to capture celestial objects. And that’s helped by the 1/1.8″ CMOS sensor that captures more light and creates up to 48MP images.
With a $219 price tag for the 400mm lens kit, this is a cost-effective way to get into long-range photography and video if the claims of Beaverlab bear out in the finished product.
Even clip-on lenses for smartphones can cost $100, so to have a fully-featured, interchangeable lens system for just over double that is pretty impressive on its own.
We should also mention that backing any crowdfunding campaign is not without risks, as you’re backing the potential of a product, and reality might disappoint. You could receive something that misses the mark, or in some cases, no product at all.
Beaverlab does have a track record of successfully completing its campaign rewards on previous devices, so perhaps the risk is lower. Just be aware that the image quality might not match up to the marketing.
