Minimize, maximize: Why you should use full-screen mode more often
By all means, use your mouse to change the size of a window by clicking on one of the three symbols in the upper right corner.
But shortcuts can help you switch swiftly between your windows and minimize and maximize them.
Going full screen is an underrated feature on Windows and Mac and you can do it even faster with a shortcut. Going full screen gets rid of the bars above and below the window and gives you that little bit of extra space and tidiness on the screen.
The command differs by operating system and the type of programme, however.
Use F11 to activate full screen for most Windows programs and browsers on Windows. To exit full screen mode, just press F11 again.
Bear in mind that on some notebook keyboards, the function keys may have a double function. You may have to to press F11 together with the fn key in the bottom row of keys.
Games are an exception - you can find a wide variety of keyboard combinations for full-screen mode - though often, pressing the Alt and Enter keys together works.
On Mac: Since the eighth major version of Mac OS (X Lion), users press a trio of keys to enter full-screen mode: Ctrl, Cmd and F.
However, individual apps may not support full-screen mode.
