How To Connect A Switch 2 To A TV

One of the biggest appeals to the Nintendo Switch, and, by extension, the Nintendo Switch 2, is the ability to play it both in handheld mode and on a TV. The Switch 2 can transition seamlessly between both after being properly set up, letting you jump back and forth as often as you'd like.

One of the most important pieces of equipment not directly attached to the Switch 2 is the Docking Station, which is the key to linking the system to your TV. Here's how to set up the docking station and also link your Switch 2 to your TV.

How To Connect Switch 2 To A TV

The most important piece of equipment outside of your actual Switch 2 is the Docking Station. If you want to connect your Switch 2 to a TV, you'll need to find a spot for your Docking Station that is close to your TV, then make sure all the wires are connected, along with making sure you have a game ready to play.

First, look along the back of your Docking Station to see a small gap in the plastic along the top above the Nintendo logo. Pull against that back piece of plastic in the small separation to pull off the back panel. Once removed, you'll see plug-in slots for an AC Power cord and an HDMI cord, both being provided in your Switch 2 box. Connect your AC adapter to the top slot, along with one end of your HDMI cable to the middle slot. Make sure all of your wires feed out of the bottom left opening of the case as you reattach it.

If you wish to use a LAN cable, it is plugged in along the bottom, though this cord is completely optional.

Once everything is connected to the Docking Station, take the other side of the AC adapter and plug it into a power source, and plug the other side of the HDMI cord into your TV. Once the HDMI cord is attached to your TV, place your Switch 2 into the Docking Station. You'll know it's in place as the Joy-Cons will perfectly line up with the sides of the Docking Station, and the Switch 2 will slide into the charging port along the middle of the Docking Station.

No, just turn your Switch 2 on, and the screen will stay black, but the green light in the bottom left corner of your Docking Station will turn on. This light indicates your Docking Station is connected to your TV, and the Switch 2 is turned on. Now, just go to the HDMI option of your TV you plugged the Switch 2 into, and you'll see your Switch 2.
