How to Charge a Ring Doorbell

The Ring doorbell’s internal battery makes it incredibly convenient to use. There’s no need for external wiring or an expensive visit from the electrician. Just dock the Ring Doorbell next to your door, and you get all the immediate benefits of a smart, video doorbell. But the downside of the internal battery is that it will, inevitably, lose its charge, and it’s important to recharge it before it goes completely flat: If that happens, the Ring Doorbell will reset itself, and you’ll have to go through the entire process of setting it up again. that's a hassle you don't need.

Ring has a monitoring process for the battery levels, and the app will notify you when it is starting to run low on the battery. When that happens, follow these steps to quickly recharge the battery.

How to recharge Ring Doorbell batteries

You can check your Ring Doorbell’s battery from the app at any time. Go to Menu > Devices, and choose the doorbell. Here, go to Power Settings, and under Battery Status, you’ll see the Battery Level option, which will show you the current battery charge level.

If you have the Ring Doorbell 1st or 2nd Generation, you will need to remove the entire unit from the wall to charge it up (we will tell you more about that in a section below). But first, let's talk about all the latest models. Every other model (Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Video Doorbell 3, Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, Ring Video Doorbell 4, and Ring Battery Video Doorbell Plus) features a quick-release battery pack that sits underneath the face plates.

First, start by removing the face plate. To do this, unscrew the single screw at the bottom of the face plate, using a star-shaped screw head (there will be one in the Ring Doorbell box).

Once that’s done, follow the above steps but in reverse order. Side the battery pack into the doorbell until you hear it click in. Wait for about half a minute as the doorbell powers on. Then, install the face plate by sliding it in on the top part, and clicking it in the bottom. Then use the star-shaped screw to screw it back in.
