4 More Satisfying Ways to End Calls on Android
You simply need to hit the red button to disconnect a call on your Android smartphone. But what if I told you there are more interesting ways to end calls? Here are four different ways to end calls on your Android smartphone besides using the regular end button in the phone app.
Use the Power Button to End Calls
As mentioned earlier, you need to tap the red disconnect button to end a call on your smartphone. But what if your screen becomes unresponsive for some reason? In such a case, it's always better to have a secondary option to disconnect the call, and what better choice than using the power button?
Most Android smartphones allow you to disconnect a call by pressing the power button. Interestingly, iPhones also offer a similar option.
That said, the process of enabling this option will vary across different smartphone brands, but the general rule of thumb is to open the Settings app and navigate to Accessibility > System Control. Then, enable the "Power Button End Calls" toggle.
And that's about it. You will now be able to end calls by pressing the power button on your smartphone; however, there's a big issue with this method that I have faced many times. While holding the phone near your ear during a call, it's quite easy to accidentally press the power button, which will disconnect the call. Therefore, I recommend being very cautious if you have this feature enabled so that you don't end up mistakenly disconnecting an important call.
Flip Your Phone to End Calls
Most flip smartphones, such as the Samsung Flip or the Motorola Flip, give you the option to end calls by simply flipping your device. However, this option is disabled by default so that you don’t accidentally end a call when you flip your phone.
The process of enabling this option varies across different brands that offer flip smartphones. For instance, to enable this option on a Samsung flip smartphone, such as the Samsung Z Flip 7, open the Phone app, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and choose "Settings." Select "Flip Options," and enable the "Close Phone to End Calls" toggle.
To turn on this option on a Motorola flip smartphone like the Motorola Razr 2025, tap and hold an empty space on the home screen, then choose "External Display Settings." Select "Call Settings" from the menu that appears, and choose the "Disconnect Call" option under the Flip Close Action section.
You get a "sort of" similar option on Google Pixel smartphones called Flip to Shhh. However, instead of disconnecting the call, enabling this option mutes the incoming call and enables Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. So, if you are in the middle of a meeting and someone is constantly calling you, you can activate this feature by placing your smartphone face down on a flat surface.
Use Earbud Buttons to End Calls
Most earbuds these days come with sensors on their body that you can tap to answer or disconnect calls. However, the position of the sensor varies across different earbud brands. For instance, the sensors on AirPods 4 are located on the stem. You need to double-tap the sensor quickly to end calls.
Similarly, if you have Samsung earbuds such as the Galaxy Buds 3, you need to pinch and hold the blades to end the call. I’d highly recommend going through the instruction manual that comes with your earbuds to find out the exact gesture required to decline a call using them.
Use a Smartwatch to End Calls
Another way to end calls on an Android smartphone is by using a connected smartwatch. Interestingly, you don't even have to tap the end call icon that appears on your smartwatch screen. Instead, you just need to perform the assigned gesture to disconnect the call.
Different smartwatch brands have different procedures for setting up this functionality. I will show how to do it on a Samsung smartwatch.
On a Samsung smartwatch, such as the Galaxy Watch Ultra, open the Settings menu and select "Buttons and Gestures." Under the Gestures section, choose the "Double Pinch" option and enable its toggle. Then, set up the double pinch gesture. Once completed, you can use the double pinch gesture to answer an incoming call as well as end an ongoing call.
If you have a smartwatch from another company, you can check its user manual to learn how to set up the gesture to pick up or disconnect calls.
These were some of the best ways to end calls on Android besides the regular method. I'm not saying that the regular method is bad or insufficient in any way. In fact, it's the fastest if you compare it with all the methods mentioned above. However, it's always better to be aware of different ways to perform a particular task on your smartphone, as they can be helpful in situations when your go-to method stops working for any reason.
